Nintendo Switch Online
-
-
More of a perk than a free game, they’re offering discounts on new titles in the weirdest and most obscure way possible
-
For $99 USD or $132.99 CAD you get two Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers, that you can then use to buy full priced games and save up to around $20 USD or $27 CAD
-
The vouchers are also only for certain titles, including Super Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Mario Maker 2, Fire Emblem, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3

Top story- if you use WhatsApp, update it NOW
-
A vulnerability was announced this week that allows hackers to install surveillance software on your phone by simply calling you in the app- you don’t even need to pick up
-
-
The malware can be used to collect data including location, emails, contacts, browser history, and also includes the ability to turn on any user’s microphone and camera
-
-
Worse yet, once the exploit is in place they can remove the missed call record, leaving you none the wiser
-
WhatsApp apparently knew about this earlier in the month, but have not explained why we’re just now hearing about it
If you want an eye-opening look into what Google’s tracking…
… head to https://myaccount.google.com/purchases
-
They’re keeping records of everything you buy even it you purchased it elsewhere, including product, dollar amounts, and shipping address, based on receipt emails it scrapes from your Gmail account
-
-
The page notes that only you can see your purchases, and none of that info is used for ads, but if that’s true then why gather the info in the first place? It’s not like they’re telling people about this “service” they offer
-
-
Google says that you can delete the info, but only by deleting the email itself from your Gmail account. If you want to keep the receipt for your records, but don’t want Google’s weird purchase list tracking it, tough luck
-
They also say you can turn off the tracking entirely, but it’s still in place despite me already having gone in to the Data & personalization screen in my account settings last year and turning off literally everything except YouTube watch history- all the personalized ads, device info, search history, and web & app activity are all already deactivated
-
Their last statement was that they’re looking into simplifying the settings to make them easier to control, but this is clearly step 1 in a larger plan to use the information that they’re gathering behind our backs
Apple has finally made the Steam Link app available on iOS
-
Long-time listeners might recall us talking about this back in May and June of 2018
-
Basically it’s a remote play app for your Steam library- you can use your phone or tablet to play any of your Steam games from anywhere within wifi range
-
It’s kind of absurd that it took this long, but it’ll be neat to see what it can do
Detective Pikachu mini-review
-
Honestly kind of missable; it was a fun spectacle to see a live action Pokémon movie, but the substance felt 100% like the previous animated features
-
I think if they’d leaned into the usual “kids movie with jokes for the adults too” setup it could have been a lot better, but this is just straight up a kids movie

Eight strangers around the globe find themselves connected — first by a violent vision, then by their shared ability to connect with one another’s thoughts and actions, and finally by the urgent need to find out what happened and why.
-
I’m a little late to the party, and actually watched the first season when it came out back in 2015, but I don’t think I gave it enough attention
-
The episodes are all well written, well acted, and intricate enough that you should give it your full attention
-
It’s a real shame it was cancelled after the second season, but considering the amount of on-location shooting they did with all the characters I can see why it was a bit prohibitive
